I am a trainee Clinical Scientist specialising in Medical Physics, specifically Radiotherapy for cancer treatment 👩🏼‍🔬

I love netball and getting into Padel tennis! 🎾

My Work:

I am a Radiotherapy Medical Physicist for the NHS!
Radiotherapy uses radiation to treat cancer. A physicist creates cancer treatment plans, tests the machines that deliver radiation, and research new and better ways to treat cancer!
My Typical Day:

I get to work around 9am and check what needs to be done for the day. Different tasks may come up, and new patients to treat. Some tasks may be planned very far ahead such as monthly tests we do on the linear accelerator (treatment machine). Other tests may be come up on the such as if there are issues coming up with a treatment plan for a patient! I often finish at 5pm but sometimes we need to stay longer if there is a lot to do!

Education:

I went to School in North Yorkshire before going to the University of Liverpool to do my undergraduate in Physics. At uni we had optional modules that covered nuclear, medical, and astro physics, and I loved the medical physics modules so then went on to do an Msc in Medical Engineering and Physics at KCL. I then got onto the NHS STP Medical Physics scheme and after my first year working chose to specialise in Radiotherapy!
Qualifications:

11 GCSEs 6A* 5A

4 A-levels AABB (I did 4 as I was so slow at exams I couldn’t risk not finishing exams and failing an A-level! So I pushed myself to do 4 to have a fall back!)

Work History:

During my MSc I tutored GCSE maths online, and worked as a bartender some nights in London

From sixth form to uni I also bartended for weddings in my hometown
