Give context to your teaching. Through text-based Chats and follow-up questions, students are able to explore real-life applications of their classroom studies.

It’s quick and easy to set up, and text-only – no audio or video required.

It’s accessible from the classroom or home, and is super-flexible – you book chats at times that suit you and your classes.

Thanks to funding from the STEM Ambassadors, this activity is completely free for UK state-maintained schools.

The STEM Ambassadors scheme supports I’m a Mathematician, Get me out of here.

The STEM Ambassador programme volunteers work with young people in schools and in the community to inspire the next generation from all backgrounds to explore STEM and consider the diverse range of careers in STEM, research and innovation.

There are over 30,000 individuals who offer their time, passion, and energy to visit schools, colleges, and youth group organisations to deliver requests from teachers and youth group leaders who want to link STEM subjects to the real world of work.

Students get to:

  • Learn about up to 40 relevant mathematicians, through their profiles, including their CVs
  • Connect with people in STEM in 30-minute, text-based, online Chats
  • Deepen their understanding and continue engaging with the mathematicians by sending follow-up questions
  • Decide which mathematician deserves the £500 winner’s prize
  • Review their learning through a facilitated discussion
